LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The SCAC women's basketball season came is now in full swing as all eight teams were in action this past weekend with many teams picking up their first wins of the season.
Austin College
The 'Roos went 1-1 over the weekend, picking up a victory
over East Texas Baptist before dropping a close contest to
Texas-Dallas. Against the Tigers, Austin College closed
with a 14-1 run to take the 72-62 on Tuesday
night in Marshall. Brianna Harvey finished the game
hitting 10-of-13 shots to establish a new career high for the
second straight game, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Christina Kime finished with 16 points and added eight assists and
four boards, and Erin Riley scored 13 points
and pulled down eight rebounds. In the 67-64 loss to the
Comets, Kime finished with 18 points, and in the process
surpassed 1,000 points for her career. She now has 1,005 points in
her four year career. Kime added four rebounds and three assists,
while Riley hit 4-of-6 three pointers to finish with 14 points,
three boards, and three assist. Harvey hit 4-of-4 field goals and
6-of-6 free throws to finish with 14 points and six rebounds in the
loss. Austin College will hit the road to take on Rust College and
Rhodes College.
Centenary
College
The Centenary women’s basketball team finished
0-3 over the weekend with losses to Louisiana College, the
University of the Ozarks, and Elmira College. The Ladies fell 96-62
at home last Monday night as Linda Gomez Gil paced the
Ladies in scoring as the sophomore provided a career-high 18 points
in the outing. They traveled to Irving where they dropped an 85-52
game to the Eagles. Briana Edwards and DeiAnna Hall
paced the Maroon and White in scoring. Edwards scored a team-best
16 points to go along with a team-leading eight rebounds. Hall
added 11 points for the Ladies. Finally the Ladies dropped a close
contest to Elmira, 73-64, as Briana Edwards paced the
squad with 23 points and was one rebound shy of her second
double-double of the season. The point total was the fourth
straight double figure game while Jessica Bruti added 15. The
Ladies return to action on Saturday as they welcome in
LeTourneau
Colorado College
The Tigers finished 0-2 over the weekend on the East Coast,
falling to Wheaton (MA) and Bridgewater St. The Tigers fell to the
Lyons 84-68 as junior Danielle Davis led CC
with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. Freshman Malia
Shappell added 14 points for her best mark this
season, while Korbyn Ukasik dished in 11 points. In the 72-60 loss
to Bridgeawter, Davis led the Tigers for the third time
this season with 15 points along with eight rebounds and three
steals. Tyus added 14 points and a team-high six
assists. CC outrebounded Bridgewater, but too
many turnovers proved too costly for the
Tigers. Colorado College returns home to host St. Olaf
College on Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. in Reid Arena. The Tigers will also
host their Thanksgiving Classic on Nov.
28-29.
University
of Dallas
The Crusaders opened the 2014-15 season with a 2-0 record at the
UD Tip-Off Classic, defeating Elmira College and the University of
the Ozarks. In the win over Elmira, 71-51, Senior Brooke
Hagemann and freshman Michelle DeCoud paced a
quartet of double-digit scorers from UD on the evening with 14
points each. Senior Marleyna Bustamante was right behind
with 13, and sophomore Lindsey Gendron added 10 - notably
all in the first half. In the win over the Eagles, 78-60,
a quartet of UD players cracked double-digits in scoring led
by sophomore Holly Tonry with a game-high 18 points.
Joining the guard was sophomore Lindsey Gendron, who chipped
in 13 for the Lady Crusaders. Senior Brooke Hagemann also
contributed 13. Dallas travels to Hendrix College on
November 30. First tip is at 2 p.m.
Schreiner
University
The Mountaineers went 0-2 over the weekend with a loss to
Pacific University and Howard Payne University. In a tough 58-54
loss to the Tigers, sophomore Sabriyyah Fennell led a
balanced scoring attack with 10 points and six rebounds.
Junior Kelsie Jackson had nine points as did senior Brooke Sanders
and Villa. Sophomore Codi Simmons added eight points. Jackson had a
team-high nine rebounds while Rambeau had seven and Simmons
contributed five boards. The Mountaineers then fell 58-49 to the
Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Fennell led SU with 15
points and added four rebounds and four assists. Junior
Kelsie Jackson scored nine points and pulled down seven
boards. Schreiner finally has its home opener
this Monday when Hardin-Simmons comes to Kerrville for a 5:30
tipoff at Edington Center.
Southwestern
University
The Pirates began their 2014-15 season with a 1-2 weekend
with losses to Texas-Dallas and Washington University and a win
over Denison College. In a 66-44 loss to the Comets, the Pirates
had a cold shooting night, shooting only 29% from the
field. Jordan Owens led offensively with 14 points
on 4-14 shooting while Annie Bourne posted
20 rebounds and a team high four assists. The Pirates bounced back
to a 69-62 win over Denison. Owens led the Pirates
again with 18 points on 7-14 shooting from the floor, 1-3 from
three point range and 3-3 from the free throw
line. Madison Eschle also had 15 points to
match Bourne's offensive output of 15 points and 13 rebounds to
become the school's all time leader in rebounds. The Pirates fell
88-55 to the 10th ranked Bears on
Saturday, Owens led with 19 points on 8-18
shootings, 2-3 from three-point
range. Bourne added in 12 points
while Eschle joined Bourne and Owens with
five rebounds each to lead Southwestern. Southwestern
returns home to host the Thanksgiving Invitational, facing off
first against Howard Payne University on Saturday at
2pm.
Texas
Lutheran University
The Bulldogs went 1-1 over the weekend, picking up a
victory in their home opener against Concordia (TX) University
before dropping a heartbreaking overtime loss to Mary
Hardin-Baylor. In the 67-59 win over the
Tornadoes, Karisa Cantu led the second-half charge with
11 points in the frame. She finished with a game-high 18 points and
just one rebound shy of a double-double. The senior point guard
also added four assists to round out a stat-stuffing
night. Kristen Lye continued her strong start to
the season, notching the second double-double of her career with 10
points to go along with a career-high 13 boards. On the
weekend against UMHB, a 91-89 OT loss, Taylor
Dydalewicz scored a career-high 36 points and Texas
Lutheran battled back from numerous deficits to force
overtime. The Bulldogs continue their road trip at 5:30
p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Concordia-Texas. It will be the second
time in three games the two teams have faced each
other.
Trinity
University
In their only game of the week, Trinity picked up their
first win of the season, defeating Hardin-Simmons, 62-57 on
Saturday afternoon in Abilene. Three players scored in
double figures for Trinity, led by Anecia Richardson with a
game-high 22 points. Richardson shot 7-11 from the field, and went
8-8 at the free throw line. Lauren Splawn finished up with 16
points and a team-leading nine rebounds to go with four steals.
Caitlin Barrett added 15 points on 5-10 shooting from the field.
Grace Horn paced the Tigers with four assists. Trinity
heads to Austin, Texas, December 1, to take on Concordia University
at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers open their home schedule December 19
against North Park University.
