WACO, Texas -- Fourth-seeded Concordia University (Texas) secured a win in its SCAC Women’s Tennis Tournament debut, knocking off St. Thomas, 4-1, to advance to the semifinals Friday afternoon at the Waco Tennis & Fitness Center. Official Website l Postmatch Interview | Photo Album
The Tornados got off to a fast start in doubles, winning line two as Emily Pullen and Valarie Sanchez won 6-0. St. Thomas would push back, first winning at line three with a 6-2 victory courtesy of Karissa Guzman and Adriana Iturralde. The Celts would secure a 1-0 lead going into singles after Ella Mullins and Lucia Rodriguez won a tightly contested battle at line one, 6-4.
In singles action, Concordia started to gain momentum when Sanchez picked up her second win of the afternoon, defeating Guzman, 6-1, 6-2 to even the match a 1-1. Isabella Cepeda made it 2-1 Concordia after posting a 6-2, 6-0 win at the two line. Pullen brought the Tornados to the doorstep of victory after she won, coming from behind to win in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Jeauxleigh Cantu sent Concordia into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-2 win at line four.
Concordia improved to 9-5 on the year, while St. Thomas closes the 2025 campaign with an overall record of 9-5.
