DESTINY MATHEWS OF CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY (TEX.), a graduate student forward from Palestine, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 3 through Sunday, February 9. SCAC Women's Basketball Release (Week 13)

Mathews was outstanding in leading the Tornados to three key SCAC wins, including two on the road last week. She tallied a trio of double-doubles, averaging 22.0 points on 49.0 percent shooting and grabbed 12.0 rebounds per game, highlighted by her 27-point, 10 rebound effort in helping knock off McMurry last Monday. In addition to her scoring and rebounding, Mathews added 3.3 steals and 2.3 assists be game.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year forward Shyanne Phillips of Centenary had another big weekend for the Ladies in a pair of home games against Concordia and McMurry as she posted double-doubles in both contests. She averaged 14.0 PPG, 16.0 RPG, and totaled three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot and went 8-12 at the FT line as she has now registered 10 double-doubles this season and scored in double figures 11 times. Senior center Zoe Tomlinson of Colorado College made history yet again over the weekend, becoming the all-time leading rebounder in SCAC history with her 12 boards against Austin College on Friday. She finished the weekend with 34 points and 23 rebounds (17 ppg, 11.5 rpg). She is currently third in the nation and first in the SCAC with 17 double-doubles. Tomlinson led the Tigers to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Austin College and Dallas, which helped CC clinch a spot in the SCAC Tournament. Junior forward Aryana Cleveland of McMurry paced the War Hawks to a 2-1 record on the road last week in SCAC play with wins over Ozarks and Centenary. Cleveland averaged 14.3 points on an impressive 60.0 percent shooting and added 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Her week was highlighted by a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double in a road win at Ozarks last Friday night. Senior forward Naomi Smith of Ozarks continued to lead the Eagles on the floor last weekend, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, highlighted by a thrilling game-winning assist to secure a one-point win over Concordia on Sunday. Smith took the ball on the final play of the game and found an open teammate underneath the basket for the buzzer beater and securing a spilt over two conference home games last weekend. Junior guard Bri Sosa of Schreiner led the Mountaineers last weekend, averaging 18.0 points on 37.5 percent shooting and added 7.0 rebounds per game in a pair of road SCAC tilts. In a tight loss at Southwestern, Sosa dropped 20 points for the second time in the last four games and the fifth time this season she has reached the 20-point plateau. Sophomore guard Adrianna McCoy of Southwestern produced back-to-back 21 points efforts to help the Pirates split a pair of home conference contests last weekend, highlighted by an eight-point win over Schreiner on Friday. In addition to her 21 points per game, McCoy added 3.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds per game. First-year forward Zoiey Jumawan of St. Thomas has a strong weekend, extending the Celts win streak to seven, matching its longest such streak since joining the SCAC prior to the 2019-20 season. Jumawan averaged 13.0 points and an impressive 50 percent shooting and grabbed 2.5 rebounds per game. Senior guard Kailee Mulkey of Texas Lutheran was pivotal in leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0 weekend at home, including 17 points a win over Trinity on Friday and a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Schreiner on Saturday. Mulkey moved into 10th all-time on the program’s all-time scoring list and became just the third Bulldog in program history to eclipse 200 steals in a career. Junior guard Kylie Minter of Trinity led the Tigers to a road weekend split in SCAC play, dropping a narrow 78-71 win at Texas Lutheran before rallying to take a 74-68 win over Southwestern. Minter averaged 21.0 points per game on 10-of-18 shooting (55.6%) across the two games, also adding 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.
