CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Currently in 24th place, Trinity University leads four SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2017-2018 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup winter standings. Complete Standings
Trinity has amassed 321.5 points in the standings on the strength of its four NCAA appearances in the fall and three appearances in the winter. The Tigers placed 23rd in women's swimming and diving, 44th in men's swimming and diving and 33rd in women's basketball.
Colorado College has 97 points and is in 113th place, while Southwestern University is in 170th place with 50 points. Both teams earned all of their points in the fall.
On the strength of the program's first-ever trip to the Division III Men's Basketball Tournament, Schreiner sits in 224th place with 25 points after finishing in 33rd.
MIT leads all of Division III at the completion of the winter championships season with 686.5 points, and has a 47-point lead over second-place Johns Hopkins (639.5). Williams is in third with 613 points, followed by Middlebury with 609 points.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
To date, all 10 winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women's basketball - Amherst; men's basketball - Nebraska Wesleyan; Women's Ice Hockey - Norwich; Men's Ice Hockey - St. Norbert; Women's Swimming & Diving - Emory; Men's Swimming & Diving - Denison; Men's Indoor Track & Field - Mount Union; Women's Indoor Track & Field - Massachusetts Boston; Men's Wrestling - Wartburg.
