SCAC Women's Track & Field Recap - Week Three

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track and field teams competed last week.

Colorado College competed at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird last week, highlighted by a win in the 400-meter hurdles from Asmeda Spalding and three top-five finishes for Camille Weaver. Spalding won her event with a time of 1:07.57 before joining Duranya Freeman, McKenna Schnack and Liza Huschle for the 4x400 meter relay that finished in fourth place with a time of 4:06.93. Weaver took third in the triple jump, fourth in the high jump and fifth in the long jump, while anchoring the 4x100 relay team that took third (50.94). The relay was made up of Weaver, Schnack, Huschle and Samantha Gilbert.

Freeman posted a third-place finish in the 800, followed by Hailey Hampson in fifth. Gilbert captured the other top-10 finish for the Tigers on Saturday, placing ninth in the 100-meter dash in 12.83 seconds.

Southwestern University, Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University all competed at the UIW Spring Break Classic last week. Texas Lutheran took second in the event, while Southwestern finished third. Trinity did not score.

Southwestern had their best finishes of the weekend in the field events. All four Pirates finished in the top ten in the shot put, led by Erin Toro who posted a new school record and finished sixth with a throw of 10.74 meters. Julia Glandt took the high spot for SU in the discus with an SU record throw of 35.09 meters while Hannah Bruce was hot on her heels, posting a throw of 34.39 meters. Bruce and Morgan Gilpin also posted new Southwestern records in the hammer throw and javelin, respectively.

On the track the 4x400 relay of Jaye Ashley, Morgan Gilpin, Sofia Garcia and Mallory Harkins finished in fourth place while the 4x100 brought home fifth. Ashley also finished seventh in the long jump.

For Texas Lutheran, Ashley Rynard won two events - the 1,500-meter dash and the 800. She won the 1,500 in a time of 4:42.97 and won the 800 with a time of 2:14.13. Kylee Garcia notched a personal-best in the 800 with a time of 2:20.89 and finished in third place. Dejah Carr posted a second-place finish in the women's discus with a mark of 39.12 meters. Cortnee Priour placed second in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters. Baylea Herring added a third-place showing in the women's javelin. Herring's best toss went 29.24 meters.

Trinity's meet was highlighted by a win in the 3000 meter from Haley McFadden. McFadden posted a time of 10:25.41 to take the top spot in the race. Jordan Juran was the women's runner-up in the 3K, while Brianna Ratliff earned a sixth-place finish in the event. Juran also took fourth place with her time of 2:23.79 in the 800 meter run, followed closely by Allison Hill in sixth.
