SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Recap - Week Seven

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four of the seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's swimming and diving teams got back into action after the holiday break.

Centenary College took fourth place among the nine competing teams at the Hendrix Invitational over the weekend, highlighted by two individual wins from Jessica Jordan. Jordan took the top spot in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, recording times of 1:10.39 and 2:32.31, respectively. In total, the Ladies posted eight individual and three relay top-five finishes.

The University of the Ozarks took eighth place in the event, scoring 111 points. Leading the Eagles was Kaitlyn Henrietta, who placed 17th  in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.43.  Henrietta swam a 1:02.14 in the 100 free to place 14th overall. Henrietta was seventh in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:50.19.

Austin College and McMurry University rounded out the week in a dual meet, where the Warhawks came out on top, defeating the 'Roos 100-88.

Sophie Garriga took first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:14.92, and the 'Roos also got a first place finish from Katie Voelkel, who touched with a time of 2:11.61 in the 200 freestyle. Voelkel also teamed with Sarah Edzards, Mary Cheadle, and Brittany Maynard to take first place in the 200 freestyle relay, coming in with a time of 1:54.41.

Austin College also got a pair of wins in the diving events from Katherine Tuttle, who got first place points in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Tuttle scored 175.95 in the 1-M, and added a 171.85 performance in the 3-M event for the 'Roos.

McMurry celebrated a trio of seniors in the meet, with the three swimmers winning every event they competed in, including relays. Katie Gorka won the 1000 and 5000 freestyle races, while Zandria Rodriguez took top honors in the 100 fly (1:06.99) and 100 breast (1:17.23). 

Remschel won the 100 backstroke in a clocking of 1:00.60, touching with a 14-second advantage over her closest competitor. She also grabbed top honors in the 50 freestyle (26.17).

McMurry newcomer Mariah Rhoades won the 100 free with a time of 59.02 seconds, while finishing second to Remschel in the 50 free (27.55).
