LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Colorado College volleyball team capped its sensational 2017-18 academic year by earning the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

CC was one of 173 Division III programs nationwide and the only one in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference to record a minimum 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Tigers posted a combined 3.40 grade-point average and a No. 4 ranking in the final AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll.

Colorado College received the Team Academic Award for the fifth year in a row, the sixth time in the last seven years and the 14th time overall since the award was created in 1993.

Earlier this year, 11 of 19 CC volleyball players were named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll for maintaining a minimum 3.25 GPA. The Tigers who earned that distinction were Isabelle Aragon-Menzel, Lizzy Counts, Aria Dudley, Reagan Folaron, Anna Gurolnick, Makena Janssen, Hannah Kip, Sarah Lawton, Jordan Mullen, Marguerite Spaethling and Myca Steffey-Bean.

A record 973 programs received the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2017-2018 season, eclipsing the previous record of 822 set last year.

The SCAC regular-season and tournament champions finished the 2017 campaign with a 33-2 record.

The Tigers begin the 2018 season on Friday, Aug. 31, when they play host to the Colorado College Classic at Reid Arena.
