GEORGETOWN, Texas – In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), senior guard Monica Holguin of Trinity University was selected as SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year while her head coach, Cameron Hill, was voted the league's Coach-of-the-Year. Complete Release

In that same balloting, Trinity junior guard Micah Weaver was selected the conference Newcomer-of-the-Year while Texas Lutheran University senior guard/forward Savannah Hight was named SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year.

A preseason All-America selection, Holguin finished the regular season ranked in the top 10 in the conference for points, assists and steals per game for the second consecutive year. One of just two players to accomplish the feat this season, she enters the SCAC Tournament averaging a team-high 15.7 points per game (second in the SCAC) while also adding 2.6 assists (fifth in the SCAC) and 1.9 steals (seventh in the SCAC) a contest. Among her highlights this season for the eighth-ranked Tigers, Holguin poured in a career-high 31 points in the Feb. 16 victory over Schreiner that locked up a share of the SCAC regular season title. It marked the first time a Trinity player had scored 30 or more in a game since 2014. Holguin becomes just the sixth player in league history to earn back-to-back SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Year honors and the first since Centre College's Maggie Prewitt won the award in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Holguin received six votes from the coaches in the Player-of-the-Year, while sophomore forward Bryce Frank of Austin College and senior forward Kristen Lye of Texas Lutheran received one vote each.

Weaver, a transfer from Texas A&M-Kingsville, made an immediate impact on the court for Trinity and is currently second on the team in scoring (15.3 points per game / fourth in the SCAC) and third in both rebounding (5.1 per game) and steals (2.0 per game / sixth in the SCAC) heading into this weekend's conference tournament. The junior guard leads the league in the field goal percentage (55.5 percent) and is eighth in free-throw percentage (74.7 percent). She had a team-high six 20+ point scoring performances this season, including efforts of 24 and 20 points in the team's final two games against Schreiner which locked up the regular season title for the Tigers. Weaver is just the third Trinity player, and first since Anecia Richardson in 2012-13, to earn SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year honors.

Weaver received seven votes from the league's head coaches in earning Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. Sophomore guard Ann Savage of Austin College received the remaining first-place vote.

Texas Lutheran's Hight finished the regular season ranked in the top 10 in the conference in steals (61 – second), blocks (27 – sixth) and total rebounds (140 – ninth). Her seven steals against Centenary on Jan. 22 tied for the most in a single-game in the SCAC this season as the senior guard/forward has been ranked in the top five in the league in steals per game the last three seasons. She enters this weekend's conference tournament with 203 career steals. Hight is the first Texas Lutheran student-athlete to earn SCAC Women's Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors since the Bulldogs joined the league prior to the 2013-14 season.

Hight received seven votes in the balloting for the league's Defensive POTY award. Sophomore forward Madison Edwards of Southwestern University received the remaining first-place vote.

Trinity head coach Cameron Hill has led the Tigers to a 24-1 overall mark, a 13-1 record in SCAC play and a top 10 national ranking in both the D3hoops.com Top 25 (eight) and the WBCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll (10th) entering this weekend's conference tournament. Trinity has won 10 consecutive games and finished the regular season with a flawless 15-0 record on its home court. The 24-1 record is the best regular season mark in school history, and is tied for the third-most single season wins for a Tiger women's basketball team. In addition, the 24 victories is a career-best for Hill, who has led the team to a program-record five consecutive 20-win seasons. Among coaches with at least five years of service in the league, he is already ninth in SCAC history for total conference wins (60) and second in conference winning percentage (.845). This marks the second time Hill has received the honor as he was SCAC COTY in his first season at Trinity in 2012-13.

Hill received six votes from his peers in earning SCAC Coach-of-the-Year honors. Michelle Filander of Austin College and Lori Morris of Southwestern received one vote each.
