GEORGETOWN, Texas - Trinity University went on a 16-0 run over the course of the second and third quarters and never trailed again to earn a 78-67 victory over Texas Lutheran University in the championship game of the 2017 SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament Sunday afternoon at Southwestern University's Robertson Center. Tournament MVP Allison Staley had a team-high 17 points along with five rebounds to lead the Tigers to the conference crown - the second consecutive SCAC tournament title for Trinity. Elizabeth Balido, who scored 10 straight points during a three minute stretch of the third quarter, added 15 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Texas Lutheran was led by Kristen Lye's 24 points and six rebounds while Cierra Jordan added an 18-point, five-rebound effort for the Bulldogs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trailing 21-13 at the end of the first quarter, Trinity went on a 16-0 run over the second and third quarters to take a 37-33 lead. The Tigers held Texas Lutheran scoreless for the last 3:41 of the second quarter and the first 2:59 of the third quarter.
- Trinity out-rebounded Texas Lutheran 45-30 and outscored them 19-11 on second chance points.
- After shooting 37.0 percent (10-27) in the first half, Trinity was red-hot in the second, hitting on 52.8 percent (19-36) of its shots and finishing the game at 46.0 percent (29-63).

NOTABLES
- With the victory, Trinity becomes the first program to win back-to-back women's tournament titles since DePauw (2010 and 2011). The title is the fifth overall for the program.
- The all-tournament team consisted of Bryce Frank of Austin College; Kristen Lye and Cierra Jordan of Texas Lutheran; and Micah Weaver, Elizabeth Balido and Allison Staley of Trinity.
- Staley was named tournament MVP.
- Trinity has played in the last five conference championship games, going 3-2 in those games.
