AUSTIN, Texas --Texas Lutheran senior forward Kristen Lye was named to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Women's Basketball Academic All-America< Second Team for NCAA Division III.

Lye is fourth all-time in scoring and rebounding for the Bulldogs. Lye holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a kinesiology major with specializations in exercise science and sports management.

Lye completed her TLU career this past Sunday in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship final. Lye led TLU to a pair of SCAC regular-season championships, to an SCAC tournament championship, and to an appearance in the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship (first round).

Lye concluded her stand-out career with 1,255 points and 805 rebounds. She averaged career-highs for points (14.4) and rebounds (9.6) this season in leading TLU to a 21-6 overall record and to a 12-2 mark in the SCAC.

Lye was named to the All-SCAC First Team for a second consecutive season. Three times she was named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team.

For her career, Lye averaged 11.84 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She played in 106 career contests.

Tuesday's Academic All-America honors were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.

The Academic All-America® women's team, with 15 players, has an average G.P.A. of 3.89 with the First Team posting a combined 3.95 G.P.A. Five women, including Lye, have 4.0 GPAs.

Off the court, Lye and her teammates volunteer at Eden Cross Apartments in Seguin. Eden Cross is an affordable rental housing community for seniors age 62 and older. Lye has also participated in TLU community-wide service days and served in leadership roles in a variety of on-campus and off-campus service groups.

Lye is scheduled to graduate in May 2017 and plans to do exercise research as well as research in the areas of battlefield health and trauma at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio. After her research time at BAMC, she intends to enter graduate school.

In the last six years alone, TLU has produced 15 Academic All-Americans®.
