SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Trinity University's Monica Holguin has been selected for the D3hoops.com Preseason Women's All-America Team.

The senior guard was named to the All-America Fourth Team. Last year, Holguin earned postseason Honorable Mention All-America honors from DIII News, and was also tabbed for the D3hoops.com All-South Region Second Team.  She was the 2015-16 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and was designated the SCAC Tournament MVP.

The versatile Holguin finished the season as one of only three players ranked in the top 10 in the SCAC in points, assists, and steals per game. Holguin averaged 13.3 points per game, and was ranked fifth in the conference. She also had 2.0 steals per game (third in the SCAC), and 2.6 assists per contest (ninth in the conference).

Holguin contributed 23 points, six assists, and six steals in the SCAC Championship victory over Schreiner (TX) University. Earlier in the season, Holguin scored 24 points as Trinity defeated the NCAA Division I program University of the Incarnate Word (TX). The Tigers recorded just the third win by a DIII women's program over a DI squad since 2003.

The Tigers are led by fifth-year Head Coach Cameron Hill. After winning last season's SCAC crown, Trinity earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs, for the second time in a four-year period. The Tigers lost a hard-fought first-round game to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) College, and finished the season with a 22-6 record.

Coach Hill will have the services of three returning starters, included in the group of 12 veteran players for the upcoming campaign. Trinity opens the season at home on November 15, facing off against McMurry (TX) University.
