ALEXANDER BOZHILOV OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a first-year from Sofia, Bulgaria, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, August 30 and Saturday, August 31. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 1)
Running in his very first collegiate meet, Bozhilov placed second with a time of 15:30.4 at the Nicole Leman Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University. The freshman went neck to neck with a competitor from NAIA Texas A&M Texarkana for most of the race and broke the school's 3-mile record previously set in 2010.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Will Salony of Trinity, despite tougher competition from last season, bested his personal record by nearly 30 seconds at this year's University of the Incarnate Word Twilight to open the 2024 season. Salony finished seventh individually with a time of 18:21 in the 6K event, beating several Division I runners in the process, and leading the way for the Tiger team. Junior Daniel Sanderson of University of the Ozarks propelled the Eagles to the top finish among D3 teams at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic, finishing fifth among non-D1 runners and clocking in at 22:04.04 for the 4-mile race. Junior Jeremiah Rodgriguez of McMurry led the War Hawks to a fourth-place finish in Abilene Christian's Naimadu Classic. The junior placed 13th among individuals and covered the wet and muddy 6K course in 20:01.7. In his collegiate debut, first-year Miguel Hernandez of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with a top 20 finish at the Southwestern Stormy Seas Opener. He finished 18th - second amongst DIII runners - with a time of 16:11.29. First-year Aidan Bedwell of Schreiner led the Mountaineer men at the Stormy Seas Opener, finishing 41st overall with a time of 17:29.35 for the 5K event.
