ANNA WILGENBUSCH OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a junior from St. Paul, Minn., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Monday, September 27 through Sunday, October 3. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 5)
Wilgenbusch placed fifth out of 237 finishers with a time of 18:50.1 at the prestigious XC Chili Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., whose field included athletes from all associations and divisions, including NCAA D1.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Elaine Kaster of Trinity took on the lead role for the Tigers in Saturday's UIW Invitational, propelling her team to a fourth-place finish in another event comprised of NCAA I programs. Due to inclement weather in the area, Kaster had to overcome intense early-morning humidity, slippery course conditions and a last-minute venue change to post a 6:08/mile pace for a 16th-place finish as the top NCAA III runner on Saturday. Her 18:24 three-mile performance defeated scoring runners from all five NCAA I programs in competition. Junior Clare Quinn of Colorado College placed second individually at the Colby CC Invite in a personal best time of 18:49 for 5K. She helped the CC Tigers secure a team win with a sweep of the top three spots. First-year Jocelyn Olivarez of St. Thomas placed 20th overall and fourth among freshmen in the UIW Invitational, running a time of 18:38 for the three mile course. Sophomore Caeli Taylor of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs at the HOKA Invitational, inishing the 5K in 20:41.73 to finish 15th amongst the 100+ runner field and bringing home a medal in a field spanning with runners from Division-I to Division-III and NAIA. Senior Sarah Endres of Schreiner led the Mountaineers with a time of 20:11 over the three-mile course at the UIW Invitational.
