RYAN FLORES OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from San Diego, Calif., has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 26 through Sunday, May 2.
Flores hurled a complete-game shutout over Austin College on Saturday to help the Crusaders sweep what ended up being a two-game series. Flores tossed the best game of his three-year career by limiting the 'Roos to four hits and three walks. He fanned four batters and was backed by a strong defense that did not commit an error and turned a triple play. Flores is the first UD pitcher to throw a nine-inning shutout since Luciano Villanueva achieved the feat in 2016 at Southwestern.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Devin Hooper of Schreiner pitched a complete-game shutout, working 7.0 innings while giving up just five hits in the Mountaineers' 12-0 victory over St. Thomas on Sunday. Hooper faced just 25 batters, striking out two and walking two to eaern his first win of the season. Junior right-hander Joe Burch of Texas Lutheran oe Burch pitched 6-1/3 innings and collected a win in the series against Centenary. In Shreveport, Burch scattered six hits, allowed just two earned runs, walked one and struck out one. He improved to 6-1 on the season. TLU won the series at Centenary, two games to one. Burch pitched the middle game - a 14-4 TLU victory.
