Centre's Jones voted as the South/Southeast Region Male Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Senior Chrys Jones of Centre College was voted by the South/Southeast Regional Track & Field Coaches as the 2010-11 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South/Southeast Region Male Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Jones, who will receive the award at the Division III Championships Banquet on Thursday, March 10, won the triple jump event in the two meets that he has competed in so far this season.

During the 2011 Tiger Indoor Invitational on Saturday, February 4, Jones took first in the triple jump with a mark of 48' 3.50". He then took part in the Anderson Indoor Invitational on Saturday, February 26 and recorded a mark of 50' 3.50" to secure the number one ranking heading into the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Jones is attempting to win his second indoor national championship and his fourth overall championship, at the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, March 12 in Bexley, Ohio. His event starts at 2:30 p.m. and he is the only one in the competition who has jumped 50' or further.

Capital University is hosting the meet, which will begin on Friday, March 11.
