Centre opened their inaugural season on the
road on Saturday, February 26 against Berry and the Colonels won
16-13. Centre was down 8-7 at halftime, but used a 6-0 run that
started early in the second half to go ahead 14-10. Both teams then
exchanged goals with Centre scoring the final exchange at the 7:13
mark to make it a 16-12 game. Neither team was able to score during
the next 6:37 of play. Berry broke the drought with 36 seconds on
the clock, but the Colonels had secured the win by that point. In

Colorado College opens its 2011
campaign on Friday when the Tigers play host to Adams State College
under the lights at Washburn Field. CC has won seven consecutive
season openers and seven straight home openers since falling to
Division I UC Davis in the first game of the 2003 campaign. This
year’s squad will be one of the youngest of head coach Susan
Stuart’s 17-year tenure with 23 underclassmen and no seniors.
The Tigers will feature a trio of All-America candidates in junior
midfielder Grace Maloney, sophomore defender Hollis Moore and
sophomore goaltender Abby Fink. Maloney has played in 27 of 28
games during her first two seasons and has been among the
team’s leaders in every statistic. In two years, she has
recorded 51 ground balls, 49 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers
to go along with 43 goals, 16 assists and 59 points in the
offensive zone. Moore was one of only three players to start every
game last year. She tallied 12 ground balls and seven caused
turnovers a year ago and figures to greatly increase the numbers in
2011. Fink made 119 saves while playing in all 13 contests and
posting a goals-against average of 10.50 during the 2010 season,
and those numbers are expected to be significantly improved this
year.
Millsaps got thier first win Saturday in
overtime, 14-11 over the Agnes Scott Scotties. Haleigh Williams
scored three goals in the final 1:30 of the second half to send the
game into overtime and then sealed the program's first victory with
the winner in the overtime period. The freshman out of Houston
scored a game-high nine goals on the day and had five caused
turnovers. Madelyn Walker also got her first win in goal for the
Purple & White with seven saves. The Majors will return to
action next Saturday as they travel up to Danville, Kentucky to
take on Missouri Baptist in a neutral site contest at Centre
College before taking on the Colonels in the teams' SCAC-opener on
Sunday.
