SUWANEE, Ga. - DePauw handed Centre its first conference loss of the year this past weekend 2-1 in OT snapping the Colonels 10 game winning streak. Trinity extended its winning streak to 12 with a non-conference 5-0 win over Chapman and is currently the lone undefeated conference team remaining with two weeks left in SCAC play.

- AROUND THE SCAC -

Austin College fell in their only match of the season, dropping a 1-0 decision on the road against the University of Dallas in a lightning-shortened game. Austin College lost despite owning a 22-2 shot advantage over the Crusaders to go along with an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. The ’Roos put seven of their attempts on goal but were unable to equalize in the match, dropping them to 10-4 overall this season. The ’Roos take on Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday in the team’s only match of the week.

Birmingham-Southern was at home this week, playing just one match against Millsaps and picking up a 3-0 victory. Juniors Linda Amaya and Alicia Plotky, and freshman Amanda Babbin all recorded goals for BSC. The Panthers’ two freshman keepers, Jordan Papas and Richelle Byrd, combined for the shutout. Plotky leads the team and is tied for sixth in the conference with 17 points (6 goals, 5 assists).

#16 Centre lost their first conference match at home Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 OT decision to DePauw. Centre scored the first goal off the match in the eight-minute of play. The Tigers were able to answer off of a corner attempt in the 87th minute. DePauw was able to find the net in the first overtime period and Centre would fall 2-1. Centre had the 9-4 edge in corner attempts, while the shot tally was fairly even at 10-9. The Colonel’s next match is on the road against in-region opponent Denison University. Kick-off is set for Wednesday, October 27th at 5:00 pm in Granville, Ohio.

DePauw improved to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in the SCAC after winning at 14th-ranked Centre in one overtime by a 2-1 score. Alexandra Ehr scored late in regulation and then delivered the game-winner at 95:47. Centre jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal at the 8:08 mark.DePauw held a 10-9 edge in shots, while Centre maintained a 9-4 advantage in corners. Lauren Palfrey totaled five saves for DePauw.

Hendrix earned its first SCAC point of the season with a 0-0 tie at Oglethorpe on Friday afternoon, before dropping a 3-0 contest to Sewanee on Sunday.  The Warriors drop to 1-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in conference play. Hendrix is winless over the past nine games.  A staunch defensive effort from Hendrix’s back line and a brilliant day from junior Allison Mosley in front of the net proved to be enough to outlast the Stormy Petrels.  Mosley denied nine shots to earn her first shutout of the year.  The Sulphur, La. native came into Friday’s game with a league-high 91 saves.  Mosley has now made at least 100 saves the past two seasons (106 saves in 2009).  Hendrix tallied nine shots in the match.  Senior forward Hope Burks led the way with two shots on-goal.  Junior Hannah McGrew and sophomore Mel Roach added one shot on-goal apiece.  The Warriors fifth tie in program history moves them to 8-8-1 all-time against Oglethorpe.  Junior forward Faith Spencer scored two of Sewanee’s three second-half goals, leading the Tigers to victory on Sunday afternoon.  Sewanee controlled the match from the start as the Tigers racked up a 17-1 shots on-goal advantage.  Spencer scored her first goal in the 47th minute off an assist from junior midfielder Layne Ezzell.  Sophomore forward Bess Goodman scored 11 minutes later off Ezzell’s second assist of the game.  Spener found the back of the net with 3:17 left in regulation off a pass from Goodman.  Mosley made 14 saves and Tigers’ junior goalkeeper Virgina Zakas denied one shot.

Millsaps fell 3-0 to the Birmingham-Southern Panthers on Saturday in their only game this week. The Panthers outshot the Majors 24-7 with only two shots-on-goal in 90 minutes. Jessica Harris and Dora Lambert each had one shot at the BSC keeper, but to no avail. Molly Beth Jordan and Sarah Nelin split time in goal for Millsaps with two saves each in the effort. The Majors will return to action next Friday as they travel up to Memphis to take on the Rhodes College Lynx in a 5:00 p.m. match.

Oglethorpe played Hendrix to a 0-0 tie on Friday and lost 1-0 to Rhodes on Sunday via a late Lynx goal off a corner kick. With the results Oglethorpe is now 7-6-2 on the season and will travel to Texas to face Southwestern and Trinity this weekend.

Rhodes went 1-1 in SCAC over the weekend.  The Lynx traveled to Sewanee on Friday night.  Senior, Alice Hilgart, got the Lynx on the board first with a free kick from 30 yards out just 8 minutes into the contest.  Sewanee would respond with a goal of their own 3 minutes later to tie the game.  Sewanee carried the momentum, scoring again in the 21st minute to make the score 2-1.  The rest of the game saw chances at both ends, but both defenses held true, as Sewanee earned the 2-1 win.  Rhodes traveled to Oglethorpe on Sunday afternoon.  The Lynx would get the win thanks to the lone goal scored off a header by junior, Laura Flink, off a corner by freshman, Maddy Esther.

Sewanee went 2-0 on the weekend and pushed their win streak to five with a 2-1 defeat of Rhodes on Friday and a 3-0 win over Hendrix on Sunday. Freshman Allie White came up big for the Tigers on Friday night, picking up both goals in the Sewanee win. Rhodes managed to get on the board first, when Alice Hilgart took a free kick and placed it perfectly in the goal, just over the leaping Virginia Zakas. Less than three minutes later, the Tigers earned a corner kick, which Bess Goodman took. Goodman placed a pass right to White’s feet and Whie connected, tying the game at one apiece. With 24 minutes left in the half, White found the goal again, this time corralling a rebound from a Fritsl Butler shot and knocked it in for the 2-1 lead.  Sewanee out shot the Lynx 19 to 11 and led in corners, five to zero. On Sunday, Sewanee got two goals from a different Tiger in a 3-0 win over Hendrix. Despite taking 11 shots in the first period and not allowing Hendrix a single shot, Sewanee was unable to get on the board and the teams headed into halftime tied at zero. But Faith Spencer turned the Tiger fortunes around early in the second half. Just two minutes into the period, Spencer took a pass from Layne Ezzell and sent a shot past Hendrix keeper Allison Mosely for the 1-0 lead. Eleven minutes later, Ezzell set the Tigers up again. Ezzell sent a pass to Goodman, who took the header and sent the ball into the net for the score. With just 3:17 left in the game, Spencer found the goal again, this time on an assist from Goodman. Sewanee would finish with a 3-0 victory. The Tigers out shot the Warriors 28 to four and took six corner kicks while Hendrix had non. Zakas came up with one save to get the shutout and the win. Sewanee is now 9-5 on the season and 3-3 in SCAC play. Sewanee heads to Texas on Friday to take on Trinity in a conference clash.

Southwestern had a week off from conference action as they headed to San Antonio, TX to face regional-opponent Chapman. Southwestern was unable to get their offense going as they took just nine shots in the match and fell 5-0. With the loss Southwestern falls to 7-6-1 on the year and remain at 3-3 in the SCAC. They return to conference as they play host to Oglethorpe University on Friday for the Colleges Against Cancer Pink Out match at 1:00 and then have their final home match of the season on Sunday against Sewanee at 10:30 am.

#10 Trinity earned a shutout win over Chapman in the team’s only action this past week. Kelly Watts and Abigail Loar both scored a goal and an assist, while Tara Sparks contributed a pair of assists in the game.  Also scoring were Shelby Guenthardt and defender Danika Wright.  The Tigers out-shot Chapman 30-6 in the game, though only two of Chapman’s shots were on goal. Trinity will resume SCAC play this weekend, hosting Sewanee and Oglethorpe in the final regular season home games for the Tigers.  Last season, Trinity defeated Oglethorpe 8-0 and Sewanee 6-1 on the road.  The last home meetings against the two SCAC teams also resulted in a pair of wins, as the Tigers won 6-0 over Oglethorpe and edged Sewanee 3-2.
