Trinity Leads Four SCAC Schools In Learfield Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Trinity University sits in 12th place to lead all Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member institutions in the 2019-20 Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final fall standings. Complete Standings

In addition to Trinity's 12th place showing, Colorado College joins the Tigers in the top 40 - making the SCAC one of 14 conferences with two or more programs in the top 40. Only three conferences have more in the top 40 than the SCAC with the UAA leading the way with six. The Centennial and the NESCAC both have four programs each in the top 40.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. 

The Trinity Tigers have totaled 227 points in the overall standings, based on NCAA postseason competition, led by the women's volleyball team racking up 83.00 points after advancing to the Division III national semifinals and finishing in a tie for third place. The women's soccer team also posted a Top 10 finish, advancing to the third round for 64 points. The men's soccer team earned 50 points following a postseason run that ended in the second round and women's cross rounded out the fall season with 30 points from its women’s cross country team that turned in a top-five performance at the NCAA Cross Country South/Southeast Regional

Colorado College posted its strongest fall since joining the SCAC and sits in 40th place with 121 points following the completion of the fall season. The Tigers' volleyball team earned Top 10 points (64) following its run to the regional finals while the men's soccer team earned 25 points for its NCAA tournament appearance. The CC men's cross country team totaled 32 points after its top five finish at the at the NCAA Division III West Regional Championships in Claremont, California. 

Rounding out the SCAC teams in the fall standings was Southwestern and Texas Lutheran with 25 points each to finish in a 50-way tie for 140th. The Pirates earned their points with their women's soccer team's appearance in the NCAA tournament and the TLU men's soccer team did the same with their qualification for the national championships.

Johns Hopkins has the lead in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Div. III fall standings with 481.00 points, while Tufts sits in second (354.50) and Chicago is third overall with 322.50 points.

To date, seven fall NCAA Div. III championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – Johns Hopkins; men’s cross country – Pomona Pitzer; field hockey – Middlebury; women's volleyball – Johns Hopkins; women’s soccer – Messiah; men’s soccer – Tufts; football – North Central (Ill.).
