LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- All ten Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball teams were in play this week, highlighted by Texas Lutheran’s 77-74 victory over previously undefeated St. Thomas, positioning the Bulldogs just a half game behind the Celts on top the conference standings.
Texas Lutheran (6-1 SCAC; 9-5 Overall) has now stacked five wins in a row following weekend victories over St. Thomas (77-74) and Centenary (79-75). In Friday’s win over St. Thomas, the Bulldogs shot 45.8 percent from the floor and held UST to a season low 74 points. Sebastian Andrade led the way with 22 points, while Caleb Lister added a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. In their win over Centenary, the Bulldogs were led by Jordan Kite who recorded 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Four other players scored in double-digits, including Cameron Fontenot who had 14 off the bench.
Dallas (4-2 SCAC; 8-5 Overall) also went 2-0 over the weekend with wins over Trinity (82-76) and Schreiner (72-68). In Friday’s overtime victory over Trinity, Cameran Hyde paced the Crusaders with a career-high 23 points while Jai Love added 16. In Saturday’s win over Schreiner Michael Wambsganss led the Crusaders with 21 points and six rebounds, with two other players scoring in double-figures.
Austin College (3-3 SCAC; 6-7 Overall) was the third SCAC team to post a 2-0 weekend, earning victories over Schreiner (84-78) and Trinity (77-72). In Friday’s win over Schreiner the ‘Roos shot 49.2 percent from the field and forced Schreiner into 22 turnovers. Michael Holland led the ‘Roos with 23 points and nine rebounds. The next evening against Trinity Devin Roland and Michael Holland each recorded 16 points, with Justice Mercadel adding a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Thomas (7-1 SCAC; 14-1 Overall) rebounded from its first loss of the season, recording an 83-69 victory over Southwestern. In the win, Freddie Ricks III had a game-high 23 points, with two other players scoring in double-digits. The Celts shot 48.4 percent from the floor and 52.4 percent from the three-point line on Sunday.
Centenary (5-3 SCAC; 8-7 Overall) also split its two conference games, defeating Southwestern on Friday (84-74). Cedric Harris had a monster double-double on Friday, scoring 25 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. His 17 rebounds are the most in a conference game this season. Four other players scored in double figures, including freshman Seth Thomas with a season-high 18 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds.
In its only game of the week, Colorado College (2-5 SCAC; 4-9 Overall) had a 70-55 win over JWU. CooXooEii Black and Aaron Acosta led the Tigers, with Black recording 25 points and Acosta adding 24.
SCAC action continues with four games this Friday and five on Saturday. The leagues two longest current win streaks will be on the line as Dallas travels to Texas Lutheran on Friday. TLU has a five-game win streak, while Dallas has won their last four.
