LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Four SCAC men's teams were in action this past week, highlighted by an intra-squad matchup between Austin College and University of the Ozarks as well as Trinity taking on nationally-ranked MIT.
On Friday, Centenary hosted Millsaps College and defeated the Majors, 74-60. Picking up individual victories for the Gents was Christopher Reece in the 50 free (23.76), Ricky Lefleur in the 100 fly (57.45), Mitchell Lulich in the 500 free (5:19.72) and Daniel Lewis in the 100 back (1:01.73). Centenary also swept both relays, taking the 200 medley in a time of 1:47.50 and the 200 free (1:35.96).
Saturday, the Austin College men picked up a road victory at the University of the Ozarks edging the Eagles 112-107.
Christopher Miles, Charles Smith, Zach Magers, and Sean Cookson opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay in with a time of 1:50.45. Individually, Miles took first in the 100 back, and Cookson earned a win in the 500 free with a time of 5:17.53, nearly 18 seconds faster than second place. Ethan Nguyen picked up the win in the 100 breast in a time of 59.47 while Colton Baker gave the 'Roos first-place points on the 1-meter board, and Stephen Estraca was first in the 3-meter dive.
For Ozarks, Jacob Jones and Josh Collins were both double winners and both broke program records during the meet. Jones set a new record in the 200 free, swimming a 1:48.30, while Collins set a new mark in the 100 fly by swimming a 54.35. In total, the Eagles won seven races. Collins also won the 50 free (22.74) and Jones took another first in the 100 free (48.32). Additionally, Nicolas Dunsworth took gold in the 200 IM (2:15.43). The Eagles won the 200 free relay posting a time of 1:31.99. The relay consisted of Michael Walkine, Nicolai Van Zyl, Collins and Jones.
The Trinity men split dual meets Saturday with the host Springfield (MA) College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Tigers defeated Springfield 190-89 and lost 222-62 to seventh-ranked MIT.
Grayden Nelson won the men's 1,000 free in 10:11.93. Nelson beat the runner-up MIT swimmer by over 10 seconds. The team of Daniel Sarman, Spencer Steward, Ben Adams, and Shamzi Alkaff finished third in the men's 200 medley relay, just two seconds behind the MIT entry. Sarman placed second in the 200 back by .30 seconds. Steward finished as runner-up in the 100 and 200 breast races by less than a second in each event.
The schedule continues next week with three of the league's seven teams in action, with McMurry and Colorado College traveling to Austin College for a tri-meet on Saturday.
