LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer continued last week with great success as Centenary, Southwestern, Trinity and Texas Lutheran all remained undefeated and Johnson & Wales head coach Ria Denny secured her first win as the manager of the Wildcats.

Centenary (3-0), which opened last season with an eight-game win streak, has started off 2019 with a three-game winning streak after knocking off Millsaps, 5-2, last Wednesday in the Ladies lone contest. The five goals scored is the most for the program in a single game since defeating Louisiana College, 5-0, back in 2016. Senior Migui Boldrin continued her hot start scoring twice and fellow senior Kyra Montes saw her first action of the season registering a goal and an assist.

Southwestern (3-0) is perfect through three games for the first time since the 2009 season after a 2-1 non-conference win over East Texas Baptist on Saturday night. Junior Maya Fuller scored both goals to lead the Pirates, marking the second time in her career she has posted two goals in a contest (the last time coming in a 4-2 win over Concordia last year). Senior Mary Cardone collected six saves in the win and upped her season total to 18 with two shutouts.

In a battle of top twenty teams, No. 17 Trinity (3-0) defeated No. 10 Hardin-Simmons, 3-1, for the first time since the 2011 season. Senior Kristen Canepa scored twice, and sophomore Kaity Ward scored once as the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead before surrendering a late goal in the 84th minute for the win. TU is now 3-0 for the fourth time since 2009, with the three previous occasions resulting in prefect regular seasons.

Texas Lutheran (2-0-1) remained unbeaten through three matches for the first time since the 2015 season after going on the road to defeat Howard Payne, 2-1, on Friday and tying McMurry, 1-1, on Saturday. Juniors Raquel Morris and Mariela Candelario paced the Bulldogs offensively, each scoring a goal and registering an assist over the weekend.

Johnson & Wales (2-2) returned home from a tough opening weekend in a big way as Ria Denny registered her first and second wins as the manager of the Wildcats with victories over Bethel College, 1-0, on Friday and Mills, 8-0, on Sunday. Senior Natasha Martin finished with five goals in two games, scoring the lone goal on Friday night and following that performance up with four against Mills. The eight goals against Mills represents the high-water mark since the Wildcats posted 10 in a win over Lincoln Christian in 2017.

Schreiner (1-2-1) and St. Thomas (0-3-1) went 0-1-1 last week, while Dallas (0-2-0) dropped its lone contest to LeTourneau, 3-1, as freshman Izzy Barajas scored the first goal of the season for the Crusaders.

SCAC Women’s Soccer continues this week highlighted by several designated non-conference matchups, including JWU hosting St. Thomas and Centenary and TLU squaring off with Southwestern in Georgetown.
