LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a full week for SCAC Baseball as seven teams saw action on the diamond.
Austin College (4-1) posted a 10-3 victory over McMurry in its only game of the week. Zack Mahoney led the 'Roos with two homeruns and a double while driving in four runs. Justin Alphonse and Jake Webster also doubled and drove in one run each.
Southwestern (4-4) went 2-2 this week with wins over Concordia Texas (6-5) and Millikin at the Millsaps College Classic. Daniel Montgomery and Hayden Craig each went 2-for-6 with Craig scoring once and Montgomery scoring twice with an RBI in the Pirates win over Concordia. In the win against Millikin, sophomore Travis Harvey pitched a complete game, striking out 12 while issuing just one walk.
No. 23 Texas Lutheran (6-4) split a four-game series against Pacific Lutheran, as the Bulldogs picked up a 2-1 win on Thursday and a 6-2 win on Friday. On Thursday, Matthew Hickey had six shutout innings to lead the Bulldogs to victory, and Alex Cornman went 2-for-4 with a run scored. In Friday's win the Bulldogs were led by Tyler Cauley who started the fireworks with a three-run home run in the first inning. Cauley and Caleb Maly each scored twice, with Spencer Brandt and Cullen Motsinger adding RBIs.
Schreiner (9-5-1) also split games over the week, dropped two of three to St. Thomas (Minn.), followed by a 12-1 victory over Presentation on Sunday. Garett Whitely led the Mountaineers in Saturday's 6-3 game one win over the Tommies, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing six hits and three runs. On Sunday, Jeffery Williams hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first to propel the Mountaineers' offensive attack while produced 12 runs and 13 hits. Devin Hooper led the team with four of those hits.
Centenary (9-4) went 2-3 over the week with victories over Whittier (13-6) on Saturday and La Verne (10-7) on Sunday. In the victory over Whittier, Cody Crowder led the Gents going 2-for-5 with a four RBIs. Bryce Kozeny and Preston Ludwick each had two hits and an RBI. The Gents were led by Connor Cudd on Sunday who pitched five innings and allowed just one unearned run. Gary Hewitt and Ben Bridges each had three hits in the victory over La Verne.
No. 2 Trinity (8-2) suffered its first losses of the season, dropped two of three to No. 6 Babson. In Friday's 10-6 series opening win, Jack Vonderhaar and Tyler Pettit had three hits each and Pettit finished with a double and a home run. Mason Meredith was the only other Tiger with more than one hit, going 2-for-5 with one RBI.
Dallas (7-4) dropped three games to LaGrange over the weekend. In Sunday's 7-2 loss, Joseph Vondrachek, Zachary Taylor, and Nicolas Hovde each had two hits.
SCAC continues with several non-conference match-ups this week - the last full week of action before conference play begins on Friday, March 13.
