Top Seeded Colorado College Back In Men's Soccer Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Top-seeded Colorado College scored a late first half goal and put away an insurance goal on a penalty kick with less than seven minutes to play as the Tigers held off No. 5 Austin College, 2-0, in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon of the 2019 SCAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Official Championships Website | Postgame Interview | Tournament Stats | Semifinal Photo Album 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Early both teams felt each other out with Austin College holding a 4-3 edge in shots through the opening 25 minutes.
  • Colorado College first got on the board in the 33rd minute when junior Will Mallory scored his fourth of the season off an assist from classmate Skyler Stark-Ragsdale.
  • Colorado College closed out the half with a 9-5 edge in shots with both teams each attempting two corner kicks.
  • The game turned early in the second half when Austin College went down a man in the 52nd minute as senior goalkeeper Juan Rodriguez received a red card for taking down a CC player just outside the box allowing the Tigers to hold possession for much of the second half.
  • Colorado College put the game away in the 84th minute when junior John Schuler scored his third goal of the season, the second via the penalty spot.
  • The CC Tigers finished with a 22-7 edge in shots, including a 13-2 advantage in the second half.

  • Colorado College improves to 5-8 all-time in SCAC Tournament action.
  • The CC Tigers have now won eight consecutive contests, its longest such streak since they won eight in a row during the 2016 season.
  • Sunday will mark the fourth SCAC Tournament Championship appearance for Colorado College as the Tigers are 0-3 in their three previous appearances (2014, 2015, 2016).
  • Austin College ends its season with a 7-11-1overall mark and falls to 3-5-1 all-time in SCAC Tournament play.

UP NEXT

By defeating Austin College, Colorado College (14-5) will face second-seeded Texas Lutheran in tomorrow’s championship match at 1 p.m. CT. The meeting will be just the second between the two programs in the SCAC Tournament with the Tigers winning the previous matchup, 1-0, in the 2016 semifinals. The winner of tomorrow’s matchup will receive the conference’s automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Tournament.
