SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Trinity senior women's soccer player Kristen Canepa is now a six-time All-American.
The talented Tiger defender was recently elected to the 2019 D3soccer.com All-America Second Team. Earlier, Canepa was tabbed for the United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team.
Canepa was selected for the 2018 All-America First Teams of both the United Soccer Coaches and D3soccer.com organizations. An accounting major, Canepa was also named to the 2018 and 2019 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Teams.
Additionally, Canepa received a high honor from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Canepa was named the 2019 SCAC Defensive Player of the Year, marking the second consecutive time she earned the accolade.
During the 2019 campaign, Canepa led a taut Tiger defense which posted 15 shutout games. Trinity was ranked 11th in NCAA Division III shutout percentage at 0.682. The Tigers allowed only 11 goals during the season and held a #15 ranking in goals-against average at .049.
The versatile Canepa scored five goals - including two game-winners - and produced five assists. One of her assists occurred during an NCAA DIII First-Round game against Pacific Lutheran (WA) University. Canepa then fired in a goal during a Second-Round matchup with Hardin-Simmons (TX) University.
Trinity advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time since the 2016 season and was eliminated by eventual champion Messiah (PA) College. The Tigers completed the year with a 17-4-1 overall record and an 8-0-0 mark in conference play. Trinity won the regular-season SCAC title and finished as runner-up in the SCAC Tournament.
D3soccer.com posted a final season ranking of #20, while United Soccer Coaches ranked the Tigers at #22. Fourth-year Head Coach Dylan Harrison and his assistant coaches were elected the DIII West Region Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches. Coach Harrison was also selected as the SCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year for the third straight occasion.
