LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s swimming continued last week as Austin College hosted Colorado College and McMurry in a double-dual meet in Sherman where CC defeated the ‘Roos, 213-67 and the War Hawks, 235-34, while Austin College knocked off McMurry, 157-61.
The Tigers saw six different individuals post victories led by Jio Chang and Kate Brush with three each. Chang won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle with times of 54.60 and 1:59.16, while also hitting the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.48. Brush showed her versatility with victories in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.31), 500-yard freestyle (5:23.08) and the 400-yard IM (4:51.53). Chang and Brush also teamed up with Dervla Moore-Frederick and Selma Jukic to win the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:19.46.
Other individual winners included Moore-Frederick winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:47.10), Jukic touching first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.99), Clara Sato sprinting to a win in the 50-yard freestyle (25.99) and Maddie Amick hitting the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.86).
On the boards, CC swept the top three spots, as all three divers posted NCAA regional qualifying scores in the 1-meter competition. Peyton Classon finished first with a score of 202.35, Riley Wadehra second (190.27) and Jen Middleton took home the bronze after posting a score of 177.60.
Austin College was led by Liberty Chanin and Chloe Hunt, each turning in a first and second place finish at the meet. Chanin won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:15.86 and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle, hitting the wall in 5:31.09. Hunt claimed first in the in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 2:19.20 and claimed the silver in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.35).
Madelaine Smith and Jessica Gryder led McMurry on the afternoon as both athletes turned in top-5 finishes at the meet. Smith finished third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.40, while Gryder finished fourth in the 50-yard free style (27.70) to lead the War Hawks.
The SCAC Swimming and Diving season continues this week, highlighted by Trinity hosting McMurry and Southwestern in the Tiger Invitational, Colorado College traveling to Arizona for the Phoenix Fall Classic and Ozarks taking on Williams Baptist in a dual meet.
