KERRVILLE, Texas - Fourth-seeded Schreiner University took control early and was never seriously threatened by fifth-seeded Trinity University as the host school led by as many as 26 and cruised to a 75-54 victory in Friday's first quarterfinal game of the 2020 SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Schreiner went on an 8-0 run late in the first half to take a 34-21 lead with 2:31 remaining before taking a 36-27 lead into the halftime lockerroom.
- Both teams had 11 field goals in the first half, but Schreiner hit on 6 of 17 from distance (35.3 percent) compred to just 1 of 10 (10.0 percent) for Trinity.
- Schreiner shot 38.7 percent (24-62) from the field, including 31.3 percent (10-32) from three-point range and held Trinity to just 28.4 percent (19-67) from the field and 7.7 percent (2-26) from distance.
- Schreiner out-rebounded Trinity, 52-37, which produced a 16-10 edge on second chance buckets for the Mountaineers. However, Schreiner did commit seven more turnovers (24-17) than the Trinity.
- The Schreiner bench outscored Trinity's 23-14.

NOTABLE
- Trinity's 7.7 percent from three point-range was the lowest output for the program since an 0-7 effort against Christopher Newport on Nov. 17, 2018.
- Today's contest marked the fifth straight year Trinity has played the host school in tournament.
- This was just the second meeting between the two programs in SCAC tournament play with Schreiner earning a 74-67 victory over Trinity in the semifinals of the 2018 event.
- The victory was the third for Schreiner over Trinity in eight days. The Mountaineers beat the Tigers 83-76 on Feb. 20 in Kerrville and 81-71 on Feb. 22 in San Antonio.
- After a first round loss last season, Schreiner returns to the semifinals for the third time in four years. The Mountaineers advanced to the finals each of the previous two times (2017 and 2018) they made the semifinal round, winning the title in 2018.
- Trinity ends its season with a 10-16 record.

Schreiner (11-15) advances to take on Centenary College tomorrow in the first men's semifinal at Noon CT. Centenary enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed with a 13-5 conference mark (16-9 overall). The two split their regular season contests this season with each winning on their home floor. Historicaly, this will mark the third meeting between the two schools in SCAC tournament play. Centenary defeated Schreiner, 74-66, in the semifinals of the 2014 tournament and Schreiner defeated Centenary, 77-73, in the 2018 championship game.
