LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis action continued last week with six teams in action, with both Southwestern and Trinity posting perfect 2-0 records.
No. 12 Trinity picked up two wins on Friday to improve to 9-6 overall and 8-1 against Division III opponents and have now won seven consecutive matches. The Tigers picked up wins over Hardin-Simmons (8-1) and conference foe Texas Lutheran (9-0).
The Tigers began the afternoon with a doubles sweep over Hardin-Simmons, capped by a hard-fought 8-7 (7-5) win at line one by Christian Settles and Hao Nguyen.
Wilson Hamilton was the first singles point to come in at line two, winning 6-2, 6-2 and Jordan Pitts clinched the match with his 6-0, 6-1 win at the top line of singles.
After sweeping doubles again against TLU, Nguyen was the first singles match to finish as he took a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top line, and Allen Song clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at line four.
No. 24 Southwestern also picked up two wins, sweeping both LeTourneau and McMurry on Saturday, to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Against LeTourneau, Alex Joseph and Dean Dulthummon put the Pirates on the board with a quick 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles as the Pirates swept the doubles points.
Joseph opened singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot to put the Pirates up 4-0, and Hunter Bajoit followed with a win in the No. 2 spot to clinch the match.
Against McMurry, the Pirates once again swept doubles play, which included an 8-7 victory at the No. 1 position by Bajoit and Hemanshu Ramobjun in what was a rematch of the fall's ITA Regional Doubles final.
In singles, Dulthummon kept the momentum going with a 6-0, 6-1 victory and Steven Tibbetts won his match, 6-2, 6-1, from the five spot to clinch the victory.
University of St. Thomas won its only match of the week - a 7-2 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday - to improve to 4-2 on the season.
UST fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, with only Juanrodrigo Lopez and Quashi "Ayo" Philips winning their flight one doubles match 8-1, but the Celts recovered by taking all six singles matches.
SCAC men's tennis continues next week with 10 matches scheduled, highlighted by three intraconference matches - Southwestern at Texas Lutheran on Thursday, Trinity vs. Schreiner (@ San Marcos) on Saturday and Trinity at St. Thomas on Sunday.
