SHERMAN, Texas – David Sheridan has been named the new head women's soccer coach at Austin College, athletic director David Norman has announced. Sheridan most recently served as head coach at Notre Dame of Maryland University, and becomes just the third head coach in Kangaroo women's soccer history.

"I am extremely honored to join the Austin College community, one that values education, athletic excellence, and a quality student experience," said Sheridan. "I look forward to the challenge of building on the past successes, keeping old traditions, and creating new ones. I would like to thank David Norman and Tim Millerick for this wonderful opportunity."

Sheridan served as the head coach at Notre Dame of Maryland for one season, taking over a program that had been 2-14 prior to his arrival and guiding it to a 9-6-2 record, including setting a program record with six straight victories during the season. Sheridan was able to achieve this turnaround despite having just 12 players on his roster last season, with nine of those 12 players earning Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Academic honors while one was named Second Team All-CSAC.

"We are very excited to welcome David to the Austin College family," said Norman. "He brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience both as a coach and as a former standout student-athlete. His ability to create a winning, successful atmosphere both on the field and in the classroom make him a tremendous addition to Austin College and our women's soccer program."

Prior to his stop at Notre Dame of Maryland, Sheridan served as an assistant coach at Manchester University in Indiana. At Manchester, he was responsible for recruiting, fundraising, strength and conditioning, and academic monitoring. Working with the goalkeepers, he helped the team break the school record for shutouts while multiple players earned First Team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Second Team All-HCAC honors.

Sheridan also served as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I-level at American University from 2011 to 2013, where in working with the team's goalies, his keepers garnered multiple Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week awards and set a school record for shutouts in a season.

Sheridan is a graduate of Mount Ida College, where he captained his team to a No. 2 national ranking in the NJCAA and participated in the national championship tournament. He played professionally in the Irish Premiere Division, Scottish First Division, and Welsh Premiere Division after graduating from Mount Ida magna cum laude in 2000. He also played for the San Antonio Pumas of the United States Indoor Soccer League. Sheridan received a masters degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in Irvine, California in 2014.
