KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released the 2015 Women’s Soccer preseason rankings Friday, and the Trinity University program was tabbed No. 6 in NCAA Division III.
The Tigers finished the 2014 season with a record of 22-1-1, with their only loss coming in the Round of 16 as they were edged 1-0 in a double overtime battle against Thomas More College.
Trinity ranked third among the nation in scoring offense, averaging 4.67 goals per game. The team also held strong on the defense end, led by goalkeeper Devan Osegueda. Osegueda was ranked second nationally in goals-against average (.226), allowing just three goals over 20 games. As a team, the Tigers gave up just seven goals in 24 total games.
They posted 17 clean sheets, while marking 10 games where the defense held their opponent without a shot.
The Tigers lost six starters, including 2013 SCAC Player of the Year Emily Jorgens and 2014 SCAC Player of the Year Kelsey Falcone.
The 2015 Tiger squad will be led by captains Maggie Olvera, Kimberly Polasek and Emily Donnan and under the leadership of Head Coach Lance Key.
Coach Key has amassed a record of 190-19-16 over 11 seasons, for a winning percentage of .880. He stands at No. 3 in winning percentage of all coaches Division I, II and III, and second in active Division III coaches.
The Tigers will open their season September 1 against Our Lady of the Lake University.
