NEW ORLEANS -- Nine Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track & field student-athletes were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Team Monday. Full Release
To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.
Trinity University led the conference with eight total award, collected by five female student-athletes. Texas Lutheran University had two athletes earn three total awards, and Colorado College had two athletes earn one award each.
Trinity's Britney Sullivan earned a position on the All-Region Team in the women's long jump, triple jump, and 4x100-meter relay. Joining Sullivan on the relay unit were senior Bailey Drury, sophomore Nkolika Nweke, and first year Abigail Schneebeck. Nweke also qualified in the 100 meters, and junior Katie Groke was ranked in the 400-meter hurdles.
Texas Lutheran's Haleigh Garcia and Akia Taplin were named to the All-Region Team as well. Garcia earned honors in the high jump and triple jump, while Taplin was recognized in the shot put.
Colorado College's Allysa Warling was recognized for her performance in the 10,000 meter run, while Asmeda Spalding-Aguirre earned all-region honors in the 400 meter hurdles.
Sullivan and Taplin will both be competing at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship this weekend in Wavely, Iowa.
