LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The conference round robin continued this past Saturday as Austin College hosted Texas Lutheran and Trinity hosted Southwestern.
Both road teams were victorious as Texas Lutheran defeated Austin College, 17-13, and Southwestern blanked Trinity, 48-0.
Sophomore linebacker Emory Cuzze picked off an Austin College pass at the TLU 20 with 30 seconds remaining to seal the Bulldogs' win Saturday at Apple Stadium in Sherman.
Jekovan Holmes caught a pair of touchdown passes from Zach Galindo in the first half and Marquis Barrolle rushed for 110 yards on 26 carries to pace the TLU attack. Barrolle is now within 63 yards of breaking the Bulldogs' career rushing record.
In San Antoino, Southwestern got record-breaking performances from Justin Broussard and Matt Gillen to roll to 48-0 victory over Trinity on Saturday afternoon at Trinity Football Stadium.
Broussard amassed nine tackles and including 5.5 sacks, which set a new Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference single-game record, and Gillen caught nine passes for 135 yards and he reached the end zone five times overall. The senior wide received hauled in four touchdown catches and fell on a fumble in the end zone during the first quarter, which also counted as a receiving touchdown. His five receiving touchdowns are the most in SCAC history.
