GEORGETOWN, Texas - Senior setter Nikki Welch was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week after her outstanding performance on opening weekend.
Welch averaged nearly 11 assists per set over the weekend, leading the Pirates to four wins including one over #8 Carthage at the Puget Sound Invitational. She also logged nearly four digs per set and added six aces.
The #16 Pirates have started the season on a roll and are expected to climb in the national poll out later this week. They head to San Antonio for four games this weekend to face Whitworth, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Pacific Lutheran and Whittier.
