OSHKOSH, Wis. – Southwestern's record setting season came to a close Friday evening as the #7 Pirates fell to Washington University (Mo.) in three sets 25-13, 25-22, 25-14.
The Pirates started the match well but Washington University quickly got hot and mounted a ten point lead, 18-8, before closing out set one 25-13.
Southwestern quickly put the first set behind them and jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in set two. A pesky Wash U team held around just long enough to bridge the gap and eventually take the lead 22-21 before winning the set 25-22.
The Bears were able to go up early and never relinquished the lead to close out the match 25-14 in set three.
Southwestern ends the season with a 34-5 overall mark after their first trip to the NCAA Final Four.
