JENNA PALOMAREZ OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defensive specialist from Pearland, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Sunday, October 15. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 7)
Palomarez helped the Mountaineers secure a 4-0 weekend in San Antonio, which included huge victories over Texas Lutheran, St. Thomas and Southwestern going 3-0 in league play. Palomarez, who entered the weekend averaging 3.45 digs per set, came up huge, totaling 104 digs. She managed 87 digs in her team's three conference matches to average 6.21 per set. She had two matches with 30+ digs, including a season and career-best 35 in Friday's 3-2 victory over TLU. She also chipped in with seven service aces on the weekend.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior libero Nadia Kern of Trinity led the 11th-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a 4-0 record that included three victories against SCAC teams last week, keeping Trinity undefeated atop the conference standings. Kern averaged a season-best 6.10 digs per set on the weekend, which is well above her season average of 3.98, and was a big part of the reason Trinity held its opponents to a .201 hitting percentage. She also recorded five aces over the weekend and eight total aces for the week. Kern had double-digit kills in all three SCAC wins over the weekend, including 23 digs against St. Thomas, and a weekend-best 24 digs in just three sets against Texas Lutheran. First-year libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College helped the Tigers to a 2-1 record last weekend, leading the team with 67 digs (6.09 per set), including a career-high 38 against Texas Lutheran.
