Austin Cervantes, Schreiner University, Men's Tennis - Character & Community

AUSTIN CERVANTES OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a junior on the men’s tennis team from Ennis, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning March 1.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Cervantes is involved six different organizations on campus, as well as being one of the captains on the men’s tennis team this year.

“I believe Austin is the definition of a student athlete. His character on and off the court is resilient, he always goes the extra mile for his teammates, and he leads by example.” says Schreiner’s head tennis coach Jacob Carrillo.

On campus, Cervantes serves as the President of Student Activities Board. He is a member of the Ancient and Honorable Order, a Mountaineer Mentor, and a Junior Senator for Student Government.

Cervantes is also part of the Mountaineer Leadership Academy that does volunteer work off campus, including a canned food drive that raised over 200 cans for the KROC Center.

Whether he is on or off campus, Cervantes is always looking for ways to demonstrate strong character and help support the community around him.
