IRVING, Texas – Led by five runners in the top 10, including the top three, the Trinity University women won their third SCAC women’s cross-country title in the last four years Saturday Morning on the campus of the University of Dallas. In the tightest margin of victory since 2016 and the sixth tightest overall in the 30-year history of SCAC cross country, Trinity edged Colorado College by just five points, 25-30. The TU Tigers were led by senior Jordan Juran, who earned SCAC Runner-of-the-Year honors with a 21:48.1 finish – the ninth fastest 6K championship time in league history. Juran’s title represents the seventh time a Trinity woman earned SCAC Runner-of-the-Year honors and the third time in the last four years. Juran becomes just the 21st women’s cross-country student-athlete to earn All-SCAC honors four consecutive years.
Six more Trinity runners earned All-SCAC honors, including SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year, senior Abby Blackwood who finished second, crossing the line in 22:07.10. Blackwood is the first TU Tiger to earn SCAC Women’s Cross-Country Newcomer-of-the-Year since Juran won the honor in 2017 and the fourth Trinity athlete to earn the distinction. Rounding out that 1-2-3 finish from Trinity was freshman Ellie Catron with a time of 22:08.20. Sophomore Paige Tangney finished ninth (22:58.70), sophomore Lynzie Kutsner 10th (23:07.30), freshman Madison Habeck 13th (23:19.40) and sophomore Anna King in 14th (23:19.90) rounded out a league-high seven TU Tiger runners in the top 14.
The title is the fifth overall for the Trinity women’s cross-country program (2012, 2013, 3017, 2018).
Colorado College finished with six runners to earn all-conference honors led by a fourth-place finish from junior Emily Dwyer with a time of 22:18.60. Joining Dwyer on the all-conference podium was senior Alexia Preston in fifth (22:29.60), freshman Kendall Accetta in sixth (22:42.10), sophomore Na’Ama Nevo in seventh (22:54.10), sophomore Clare Quinn in eighth (22:56.60) and freshman Lily Brazil clocking in 11th with a time of 23:10.70. Dwyer, Preston and Nevo all earned All-SCAC honors for the second consecutive year.
St. Thomas turned in its best-ever finish at the SCAC cross country championships, finishing third with 106 total team points. The Celts were led by sophomore Sophia Sanchez’s 20th-place finish, stopping the clock at 24:19.50.
Rounding out the team standings, Southwestern University was fourth with 123 points, Texas Lutheran University finished fifth with 128 points and the University of Dallas was sixth with a team score of 141. Austin College and Schreiner University all competed but did not have enough runners to score.
Despite not registering a team score, Austin College’s Aimee Landers-Wilburn become the first woman in ‘Roo cross-country program history to earn All-SCAC honors, finishing 12th with a time of 23:12.30.
This year's cross-country championship, which had originally been scheduled for October 31, 2020, is the first championship the conference has hosted since the 2020 Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament ended on March 1, 2020.
