KERRVILLE, Texas – Jaymee Wilkinson and Kaylea Patridge combined to go 7-for-8 with four RBI and two doubles as fifth-seeded Centenary defeated third-seeded Trinity, 8-3, in an elimination game at the 2021 SCAC Softball Tournament on Sunday evening at Mountaineer Softball Field. Inclement weather on Friday and Saturday forced the adjustment of the event from a double-elimination tournament into a modified single-elimination tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trinity got on the board first thanks to a Marina Delaluna RBI double that scored Sammie Whitman from first base in the bottom of the first.
- Centenary tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third. After the Ladies had runners on second and third, Kaylea Patridge delievered an RBI single. Centenary then took its first lead after one batter later when Erin Lewis tallied a two-run double to give the Ladies a 3-1 lead. A Jaymee Wilkinson double then padded the Centenary lead to 4-1 through the top of the third inning.
- After a groundout, Delaluna hit a solo homerun to cut the Centenary lead to 4-2 through three innings.
- In the top of the fourth Centenary extended its lead to 6-2 on thanks to a two-run double from Patridge. Centenary maintained a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth. That's when Trinity's Whitman drew a bases loaded walk to cut the Centenary lead in half at 6-3.
- The Ladies manufactured a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Patridge scored on a steal of home while teammate Wilkinson stole second on the play. Mallory Stout pushed across a run to provide the winning margin with an RBI single that scored Wilkinson.
