SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The third-seeded University of St. Thomas Celts scored a 5-0 victory over No. 6 Texas Lutheran University Thursday night in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championship quarterfinals at Trinity’s Butch Newman Tennis Center.

St. Thomas upped its record to 5-6 and will face defending champion and second-seeded Trinity in the semifinals. Texas Lutheran finished the campaign with an 0-11 record. Thursday’s tilt was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved because of the threat of inclement weather.
The Celts led 3-0 after doubles, with Alyssa Davila and Anna Ta leading the way on the third line with an 8-0 decision over Katie Niday and Tara Molina. Annamaria Gonzalez and Alejandra Lopez took the top doubles match 8-2 over Mary Eby and Kaitlyn Enloe. Asan Atilla and Karissa Guzman made it 3-0 St. Thomas by winning No. 2 doubles 8-4 in a match with Baylee Parrott and Allison Wise.
St. Thomas’ Guzman garnered the first victory in singles, beating Niday 6-0, 6-0 on the No. 5 line.The Clincher for the Celts came on line 3 as Davila bested Parrott 6-1, 6-0.
Four matches were called after the clinch: No. 1 (Gozanlez vs. Eby), No. 2 (Lopez vs. Enloe), No. 4 (Atilla vs. Wise), and No. 6 (Callighan Ard of St. Thomas vs. Molina).
