SCAC Men's Basketball Recap - Week Four

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. --  The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball season continued last week, highlighted by St. Thomas and Centenary both posting 2-0 marks. 

St. Thomas (5-1; 6-2) swept Austin College (3-3) at home last week, picking up a 40-point win Friday, 97-57, and finishing the week with a 76-61 victory Saturday. The Celts shot 53 percent  from the floor on Friday, including 39.4 percent from deep, hitting 13-three pointers. Christian Alaekwe led the Celts, scoring 18 points and grabbing eight boards. Freshman Adam Kanafani posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Celts finished Saturday's victory with four players in double figures. Junior Juan Hood led the effort with 18 points, with Cameron Grims adding 14 points and seven rebounds. Tristan Dick led the way for the 'Roos scoring 11 points Friday and adding 15 points Saturday.  

Centenary (6-2) also posted a sweep last week, picking up a 59-43 win Monday and a 51-37 victory Tuesday over Colorado College (0-6). Sophomore Seth Thomas led the Gents in both games, posting a game-high 16 points on Monday, followed by a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds on Tuesday. On Monday, CC was led by Taylor Harris and Trey Crawford who combined for 22 points. 

Texas Lutheran (2-4) split games against Southwestern over the weekend, posting an 84-79 overtime victory on Friday. Senior Sebastian Andrade led the way for the Bulldogs, scoring 26 points in 40 minutes. Freshman Xavier Phillips added a career-high 18 points off the bench.  

Southwestern (4-2) collected it's win Saturday, with a 78-76 victory over TLU. Kyle Poerschke followed a 22-point scoring effort Friday, with a game-high 19 points and six rebounds in the victory, which included the gamewinner with 0.4 seconds remaining. Three Pirates scored in double figures, with Calvin Williams and Trenton Garrett each adding 16 points.   

Schreiner (1-3; 2-4) also split games, with an 83-79 victory over Dallas on Friday. Five Mountaineers scored in double figures, with Chase Pinter and Nicholas Vann leading the effort with 14 points each. 

Dallas (2-6) posted its victory with Saturday's 98-87 victory over Schreiner. Six different Crusaders, including all five starters, scored in double figures in the victory. Jacob Giunta led the charge with a game-high 23 points and added 11 rebounds.  

SCAC play continues this weekend as the race for the regular season title tightens, with eight teams scheduled to play.
