Ross continued his outstanding season, leading the Mountaineers to a pair of key SCAC wins, knocking off Centenary and Ozarks at home. He averaged 22.5 points on an impressive 63.3 percent shooting and added 14.5 rebounds per game. Ross produced 11th and 12th double-double of the season to extend his current streak to four straight. His 12 double-doubles on the season are currently tied for the ninth most in the NCAA, while his 12.2 rebounds per game rank 8th in the country and his 22.5 points per game are good enough for 15th in the nation. In addition to his points and rebounding prowess, Ross also added 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game last week.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Jackson Rennie of Austin College had an impressive weekend for the ‘Roos, pumping in 22.0 points-per-game while shooting 50 percent from the field, 50 percent from three (9-of-18), and 100 percent from the free throw line in a pair of narrow losses to Colorado College and No. 19-ranked St. Thomas. Against the Celts, Rennie poured in 28 points while knocking down 7-of-11 from deep. Junior guard Quentin Beverly of Centenary had an impressive weekend in games at Schreiner and Trinity, averaging 16.5 points per game, notching his ninth and 10th double-digit scoring performances of the season. He scored a team-high 17 points against the Mountaineers and then played all 40 minutes against the Tigers on Saturday and scored 16. He totaled 12 rebounds, four steals, two assists, and a blocked shot for the weekend with seven three point field goals. Senior forward Devin Philio of Colorado College was tremendous in leading the Tigers to a pair of critical SCAC road wins last weekend, defeating Austin College in overtime (79-74) on Friday and Dallas (78-75) on Sunday. He averaged 18.0 points on 63.6 percent shooting and collected 12.5 rebounds per game. Philio collected his fourth and fifth career double-doubles, including a 22-point, 11-rebound performance against the Crusaders. He also averaged a steal and a block per game over the weekend. Senior guard Donovan Stafford of Concordia led the Tornados to a 2-0 weekend in conference play. In a 78-75 victory over Southwestern, Stafford posted team-highs of 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. He then poured in a game-high 20 points (8-12 FGM) in a 79-67 win over Texas Lutheran. In the two games, he averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on 58.3/50.0/81.8 splits. Junior guard James Mathews of Ozarks averaged 15.5 points per game for the Eagles during a two-game road stretch. Mathews hit 57 percent from the field, including 50 percent from the three-point line. He opened the week with 22 points and seven rebounds against Trinity and then followed that performance with an outstanding defensive game recording five steals against Schreiner. Sophomore forward Luke Mills of Southwestern averaged 10.0 points on a blistering 80.0 percent shooting and added 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.5 steals in a pair of home SCAC contests last weekend. Senior forward Andrew Adebo of St. Thomas helped the Celts stay unbeaten in SCAC play with road wins over Dallas (57-41) and Austin College (75-71). Adebo averaged 13.5 points per game on 47.4 percent shooting, including 100 percent from the free throw line and added 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.5 assists per game. Junior guard Trey Blackmore of Texas Lutheran averaged 16.5 points on 42.9 percent shooting to help the Bulldogs split a pair of home SCAC contests last weekend, highlighted by a win over McMurry on Friday. Blackmore also added 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 0.5 steals per game. Senior forward Ty Williams of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of home wins in SCAC play, remaining atop the SCAC Gold Division standings and extending its win streak to 10 games. Williams averaged 12.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds in just 19.5 minutes per game over the weekend, hitting 9-for-16 (56.3%) from the field. He scored a season-high 18 points to go with six boards and two steals in Saturday night's win over Centenary, hitting 6-of-12 from the field.
