Harvey had an outstanding weekend as he led the Trinity to a 2-0 record, extending their win streak to eight games. Against McMurry, Harvey hit his second game-winner of the season in the final seconds to lift the Tigers over the Warhawks 81-80. In his game against Concordia, Harvey dropped 26 points on a red hot 9-16 shooting, including going 5-9 from beyond the arc. With his efforts, the Tigers retained their first place standing in the gold bracket and Jacob now ranks third nationally in three-point attempts and 10th nationally in three-pointers per game and total three-point field goals. On the week, Harvey averaged 18.0 points on 50 percent shooting, including 40 percent from beyond the arc and added 3.0 steals, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He is now sixth in the SCAC in points per game, averaging 16.4.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Jackson Rennie of Austin College had an outstanding weekend for the ‘Roos, averaging 22.5 points-per-game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc (11-of-25). Rennie poured in 25 points with seven threes against Southwestern and followed that up with 20 against TLU, with his first made three of that game giving him 200 made triples in his career. Rennie also averaged 3.0 rebounds in the two games. Senior guard Craig Collier of Centenary averaged 14.0 points per game in a pair of league contests for the Gents over the weekend including a team and game-high 22 points at Colorado College on Friday. Collier has now reached double figures a team-high 12 times this season and has done so in eight of his last nine games and has scored 20+ points eight times this season. He added seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals while averaging 37.5 minutes/game. Senior guard Donovan Stafford of Concordia averaged 23.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists (zero turnovers), and 2.0 steals in a pair of games last weekend. He led the Tornados to an 86-78 victory over Schreiner with 21 points and nine rebounds and then paced Concordia with a game-high 26 points to go along with seven boards in a close game against Trinity. Sophomore guard Thomas Fleming of Dallas was outstanding leading the Crusaders to a pair of key SCAC victories at home last weekend, defeating Texas Lutheran on Friday and Southwestern on Saturday. Fleming averaged 20.5 points on an efficient 51.9 percent shooting, including 44.4 percent from beyond the arc. Fleming also added 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game, while turning the ball over just once in 75 minutes of action. Junior forward Jalen Cherry of McMurry scored in double figures in both of the War Hawks contests last weekend, averaging 16.5 points per game, including a team-high 18 in a loss to Schreiner on Sunday. Cherry has now scored in double-figures in three-straight contests and seven times this season. Junior guard James Mathews of Ozarks averaged 19.5 points per game over two road games in the Eagles 1-1 week. Mathews scored 22 points behind a 16-of-18 shooting performance from the free throw line in an overtime win against Colorado College. He also grabbed five rebounds and had four assists in that game. He had 17 points thanks to a 14-of-18 effort from the free throw line against St. Thomas. For the week, he made 30-of-36 (83%) from the free throw line. Graduate guard Beau Cervantes of Schreiner averaged 19 points over the weekend on 14-of-26 from the field and 8-of-17 from three. He added five rebounds and six assists per game. In the Mountaineers win at McMurry, Cervantes lead the team in scoring and connected on 6-of-11 triples. Sophomore forward Luke Mills of Southwestern led the Pirates to a SCAC road split, knocking off Austin College before falling to Dallas is overtime. Mills averaged 15 points on 59.1 percent shooting, including 22 points on 76.9 percent shooting in the Pirates’ win over Austin College. Mills added 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game over the weekend. Senior guard Marion Williams of St. Thomas played a pivotal role in leading the team to two big wins, keeping the Celts the lone undefeated team in conference play. The electrifying guard averaged 15.5 points per game, shooting an impressive 50.0 percent from the field, and proved to be a spark plug off the bench. His ability to score in key moments, combined with 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game we critical in extending St. Thomas’ win streak to 11. Senior guard Xavier Phillips of Texas Lutheran lifted the Bulldogs to a 1-1 record last week in a pair of SCAC contests on the road, falling to Dallas on Friday before knocking off Austin College on Saturday. Phillips averaged 17.0 points on 43.5 percent shooting and added 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game. In the win over the ‘Roos, Phillips poured in 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists and snagged one steal.
