TOM WHITWELL OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior defender from Warwick, England, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 28th through Sunday, November 3rd. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 10)
Whitwell led the 13th-ranked Trinity men's soccer team to a pair of home wins to close out the regular season this past weekend, clinching a share of the SCAC Regular Season Championship. Whitwell and the Tiger defense recorded a pair of shutouts and allowed just three total shots over 180 minutes. Whitwell also came forward early in the second half to knock in a goal that put Trinity ahead 2-0 at the time. That goal was the first of the season for the senior defender.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender Rex Karjian of Colorado College helped anchor the Tiger defense to another two wins in SCAC play. Rex and the Tigers defense allowed only one goal and five combined shots in back-to-back wins over Austin College and Dallas to secure a share of the SCAC regular season crown and the No. 1 overall seed for the upcoming conference tournament. Against the Crusaders, CC held Dallas to only one shot and no shots on goal. Karjian played 116 minutes and contributed on the offensive side of the ball with four assists (two in each game). Junior defender Raghav Sharma of Southwestern led a Pirates defensive effort that allow just two goals last weekend and secured a pair of key wins to earn a spot in the SCAC Tournament. Sharma also jumped in offensively, scoring the game winning goal in the 87th minute to give the Pirates a 2-1 comeback win over McMurry on Sunday.
