JOHN KEY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from El Paso, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Friday, October 28 to Saturday, November 5. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 4)
Key swam his way onto the program top 10 times list in four individual events this weekend at the Division 3 shootout at University of Chicago. He finished fourth in both IMs - swimming a 4:06.15 400 IM for fifth in Trinity history while his time of 1:55.07 in the 200 IM puts him seventh. Key touched third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:07.15 (fifth in school history), and went a 58.70 in the 100 breaststroke.
Key anchored the 800 freestyle relay in 1:44.84 and split a 48.16 on the mixed 4x100 freestyle relay.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Ethan Spillers of University of the Ozarks won the 200 IM at the Hendrix College Classic in 2:07.06 and then turned around in the next event and won the 200 fly in 2:03.54. At this past weekend's dual at McMurry, Spillers won the 200 free in 1:55.43, 100 fly in 56.18, 200 back in 2:09.81, and finished second in the 200 IM in 2:09.20. First-year Andrew Renninger of Southwestern won the 1,000 (10:06.70) and the 200 IM (2:02.71) at Saturday's dual meet against Austin College. Sophomore Caleb Bush of McMurry had a fantastic meet against Ozarks this past weekend, which included be a part of both winning medley relays. He split 1:02.39 in the 400 medley and 28.37 in the 200 medley - swimming the breaststroke in both events. His individual victories came in the 200 (2:19.26) and 100 (1:04.07) breast. Bush also placed third in the 200 IM (2:11.07) and second in the 200 free (1:56.26).
