LUKE FENDER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year swimmer from Jackson, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Friday, January 24 to Sunday, January 26. It is the second consecutive week and third time this season Fender has been so honored. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 11)
Fender had two impressive performances against Division I University of Incarnate Word last weekend. In the 1,000-yard freestyle he produced a beautiful come from behind win, touching in a dual meet best of 9:40.47. Fender had another close race in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing second in a time of 4:39.50. Additionally Fender led off the 200-yard freestyle relay with a split time of 22.48.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior Ethan Spillers of Ozarks was outstanding in the Eagles Senior Day meet against Hardin University last weekend. Spillers posted a trio of first-place finishes, winning the 50-yard backstroke (24.34), the 50-yard breaststroke (33.07) and the 50-yard fly (26.40). Spillers also anchored the winning 200-yard free relay with a split of 23.07. First-year swimmer Luke Newman of St. Thomas delivered an electrifying performance with a pair of personal best last weekend in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle at the Rice Time Trials. Newman posted a PR in the 100 of 52.92 and the 50 of 23.66.
