SUWANEE, Ga. – In exclusive voting by the
head coaches in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC),
Millsaps College was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2010
SCAC baseball championship. Head coach Jim Page’s Majors
received seven of the 11 coaches’ first-place votes followed
by Trinity University with the remaining four first-place
votes.
Millsaps earned an at-large (Pool C) bid and the program’s
sixth appearance in the NCAA Division III regionals last season.
The Majors posted a 34-10 record and the SCAC West Division title
in 2009 while securing the program’s fourth 30-win season
(all under Page).
As for the division races, Birmingham-Southern College received
five of the six first-place votes while tallying 35 points and is
the clear preseason favorite to win the East. Rhodes College (27
points) and DePauw University (26 points, one first-place vote)
round out the top three spots. Oglethorpe University (18 points),
Centre College (13 points) and Sewanee: University of the South (7
points) round out the East.
In the West, Millsaps garnered four of the five first-place votes
(24 points) and is favored to win the division. Trinity University,
with 19 points and the remaining first-place vote, was tabbed
second followed by defending SCAC champion Hendrix College (13
points). Southwestern University (11 points) and Austin College (8
points) complete the West.
