Colorado College's Perkins highlights eight AVCA All-American selections for SCAC

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Colorado College junior middle blocker Emily Perkins highlights eight SCAC volleyball student-athletes who were named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Americans, the AVCA announced.

Perkins was named a First-Team All-American after leading the Tigers to their first ever regional championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Quarterfinals. Perkins earned all-West Region honors from the AVCA and was a first-team selection by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

She became only the third player in the 31-year history of the program to record 400 or more kills and digs during the same season, and is the first middle blocker to record that achievement. Her current 2009 totals of 442 kills and 426 digs are both career highs. Perkins ranks No. 4 on Colorado College's all-time charts with 1,290 kills and 1,185 digs for her career. She also is third all-time with 340 total blocks.

Southwestern University senior outside hitter Audra Gentry earned Second-Team All-American honors after leading the 12th-ranked Pirates to the South Regional championship match for the second consecutive season. Gentry, the 2008 and 2009 SCAC Player of the Year, led the conference with 3.83 kills per set while posting a hitting percentage of .246 on the season. She was a Third-Team All-American selection a year ago.

Senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood of Trinity University garnered Third-Team All-American laurels after leading the 18th-ranked Tigers to the NCAA Division III National Quarterfinals. Hazelwood ranked in the top-10 in the SCAC in both hitting percentage (.276) and blocks (1.15 per set). She earned SCAC Player of the Week honors twice during the 2009 season and was named All-SCAC First-Team in 2009 as well.

Samantha Lingamfelter, a senior libero, was named Third-Team All-American along with Hazelwood. Lingamfelter led the SCAC with 5.52 digs per set while being named the league's Backrow Player of the Year for an unprecedented third consecutive year. She also was named the 2009 SCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. Lingamfelter helped guide the Pirates to a school record 33 match winning streak during the season.

Colorado College sophomore right side Meredith Ballard and sophomore setter Amy Schornack earned Honorable Mention All-American honors. Southwestern sophomore setter Christina Nicholls and sophomore teammate, middle blocker Lindsay Thompson, also were named to the Honorable Mention All-American team.
