Ninth-ranked Tigers Lose in NCAA Women's Tennis Second Round

GRANVILLE, Ohio
— DePauw concluded the team portion of its regular season with a 5-3 loss to Johns Hopkins in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.

The Tigers finished the season at 20-5, while the Blue Jays improved to 17-8 and advanced to Saturday's third round where they'll face host Denison.

John Hopkins took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with wins at the second and third flights. DePauw's Greer Mackie and Kayla Smith picked up DePauw's lone point with an 8-4 win over Anita Bhamidipati and Carolyn Warren.

The Blue Jays won at second singles and DePauw at fifth to give Johns Hopkins a 4-2 lead. The Tigers were leading in all three of the remaining matches but Johns Hopkins won at fourth and first singles to clinch the match. The Blue Jays' Carolyn Warren trailed Janelle Arita by a 4-1 score in the third set, but won five straight games to end the match.

Arita will compete in the Division III Singles Championship, while the doubles team of Greer Mackie and Kayla Smith will also compete.
