Maryville (Tenn.) College, 5-0, in second round NCAA playoff action

Trinity, undefeated at 17-0-0, advanced to next week's round of 16 at a site and date to be determined. The Tigers will meet the winner of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Hardin-Simmons in the third round. The Scots concluded their season with a 13-5-5 record.
Tiger sophomore forward Kelly Watts led the way with three goals, two of which came in the first half. Trinity led 4-0 at halftime, scoring all the goals within the first 20 minutes of play. Junior defender Danika Wright opened the scoring on a penalty kick, followed with a goal by sophomore forward Abby Loar.
Loar accounted for two assists, and Wright had one. Senior forward Alex Leamy also registered an assist. Tiger first-year goalkeeper Katie Garrett had one save, and Maryville sophomore Desiree Simmons had seven.
Trinity outshot Maryville 24-2, and led 12-1 in shots on goal. The Tigers held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Tigers are competing in their 15th NCAA postseason, but the first since an opening-round loss in 2007.
