CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men’s soccer team used three first half goals to post a 3-1 win over SCAC foe Colorado College, giving Warriors’ head coach Doug Mello his 400th career victory on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field. Box Score
Hendrix improves to 9-6-2 overall and 4-2-2 in SCAC action,
while Colorado moves to 9-8-1 on the year and 5-4-0 in league play.
The Warriors overall mark is their best since going 9-5-0 in
1993.
Mello entered the 2009 season with a 391-210-34 overall record
during his 29 year career as a men’s head coach. His
resumé ranks among the best active coaches in collegiate
soccer, as his win-total ranked 27th among NCAA active coaches (all
divisions), and 10th among NCAA D-III active coaches. Mello also
owns a 282-139-32 overall record as a women’s head coach and
ranks tied for 22nd on the NCAA All-Divisions Winningest Coaches
(by victories) list. His previous college coaching experience
includes an 18-year stint at Luther College, a six-year stint at
Siena Heights University (1982-88), a four-year tenure at Aquinas
College (1978-82) and one year at College of the Southwest
(1989).
Warriors’ first year forward Dylan Reed (Conway, Ark./H.S.)
opened the game with his fifth goal of the season off an assist
from sophomore forward Duncan Keegan (Signal Mountain, Tenn./CSAS
H.S.) in the 16th minute.
Keegan then scored on back-to-back goals in the 26th and 31st
minutes for his team-best 12th and 13th goals of the year.
Sophomore midfielder Colin Thompson (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill
H.S.) and senior forward Thatcher Crawford (Houston,
Texas/Episcopal H.S.) assisted Keegan on his scores,
respectively.
The Tigers too 61 minutes to reach the scoreboard when first year
forward Matt Fechter put his shot past the keeper for an unassisted
goal.
Hendrix senior keeper Jon Moore (Arlington, Texas/Nolan Catholic
H.S.) had a brilliant day in front of the goal with seven saves.
