DEVANTE' JACK OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a first-year from Jena, La., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, April 11 through Sunday, April 17. (SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 7)
Jack had the top individual finish of the day for the Gents as he won the men's 800 meters in a season-best time of 1:56.85, besting several athletes from Division I schools, at Friday's Little Rock Twilight Meet. He now has three top-10 finishes in the 800, including a runner-up finish.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Jhancarlos Carpio of St. Thomas ran a new personal-best of 4:00.27 in the 1500 meters this past Friday at the Earl Miner Invitational. This ranks him fifth in the conference and second among freshmen. Freshman DeShaun Merritt of Dallas had two PR's at the Warhawk Classic hosted by McMurry. He ran a 11.59 in the 100 meters which bested his original mark by half a second, and in the 200 meters, his mark of 23.54 also bested his original mark by half a second. Sophomore Bryce Powell-Chimene of Texas Lutheran earned himself a PR and a second place finish in the 400 meters at the Texas State University-hosted Charles Austin Classic. His time of 51.25 puts him ninth in the SCAC. He also ran 22.66 in the 200, an event he also currently holds the No. 9 spot in the SCAC.
